Rio de Janeiro: Carnival in Brazil
This isn’t a Carnival-themed party. We’re going to Carnival. In Rio. 🇧🇷
Get ready to experience Rio de Janeiro during one of the most iconic celebrations in the world—where samba fills the streets, vibrant costumes take over the city, and the energy of Carnival can be felt everywhere you go.
But this Luxe World Travels experience is about more than the celebration.
We’re diving into the culture, history, food, music, and beauty that make Rio unforgettable. From exploring the city’s legendary landmarks and discovering the African influence woven throughout Rio’s history to experiencing samba culture and witnessing Carnival in all its color and grandeur, this journey was designed to give you a deeper connection to Brazil.
And because we believe luxury travel should still leave room to **actually enjoy where you are**, there’s time built in to relax, explore on your own, hit the beach, grab a caipirinha, or simply soak up the Rio sunshine.
Come ready for the culture. Come ready for the samba. Come ready for the outfits. And baby… come ready for CARNIVAL.
Rio is calling. Let’s experience it together.
What this trip asks of you, before you read the day-by-day.
Moderate
Travelers should be comfortable with extended walking and standing, crowds, stairs, hills and some late nights. While the trip does not require strenuous physical activity, Carnival days can be long and energetic.
This itinerary moves at a lively pace, especially during Carnival. Expect late nights, crowds, full sightseeing days and several scheduled cultural experiences throughout the week. A full recovery day and select leisure periods are intentionally built in to give travelers time to recharge between the bigger experiences.
Rio includes paved city streets, stairs, hills, uneven walkways and crowded event areas. Comfortable supportive shoes are strongly recommended, especially for sightseeing and Carnival events.
Brazilian Real (BRL)
Credit cards and contactless payments are widely used throughout Rio. Carrying a small amount of Brazilian reais is still helpful for local vendors, tips and small personal purchases.
2 hours ahead of Eastern Time
During this trip.
Private transportation is coordinated for scheduled touring and experiences. Some days also involve walking between attractions or within pedestrian-heavy areas. Carnival traffic and road closures may increase transfer times, so flexibility is important during major event days.
A private webinar for this trip isn’t ready yet. Leave your details and we’ll send it to you first, along with anything else worth knowing before this trip fills.

Day 1
Arrival + Welcome Dinner
Bem-vindo ao Rio de Janeiro. After arriving in Brazil, settle into the hotel, take a moment to reset from your flight and get your first glimpse of the city that will be home for the next seven nights. Day 2
Leisure Morning + Sambadrome Special Group Experience
After yesterday’s festivities, the morning is yours. Sleep in, enjoy breakfast at your own pace, lounge by the pool or take a slow start before one of the biggest nights of the entire trip. Tonight, we’re headed to the legendary Sambadrome.
This is where Rio’s samba schools bring months of preparation to life with elaborate costumes, massive floats, percussion, dance and performances on a scale that simply cannot be recreated anywhere else. Our group will experience the parade from Frisa seating, placing us close to the action as the samba schools make their way down the avenue.
Expect a late night. Expect incredible costumes. Expect noise. Expect color. And expect to understand why people travel from all over the world just to experience this moment once.

Day 3
Little Africa + Samba & Carnival Experience + Bloco
Before we celebrate Carnival, we’re going deeper into the story behind the rhythm. Today begins in Little Africa, one of Rio’s most culturally significant areas and an important center of Afro-Brazilian history, heritage and samba. We’ll explore the people, traditions and stories that helped shape the cultural heartbeat of Rio.
From there, we step into the world of samba and Carnival, learning more about the music, movement, costumes and traditions behind the celebration. And then it’s time to experience Carnival the way Rio does it — in the streets. We’ll join the energy of a bloco, where music, dancing, costumes and thousands of revelers transform the city into one massive celebration. This is the day Rio starts feeling very real.

Day 4
Full Leisure Day We meant it when we said we were building recovery time into Carnival. Today has absolutely no scheduled group activities. Sleep in after the Sambadrome. Order room service. Spend the afternoon poolside. Book a spa treatment. Head to the beach. Find a cute restaurant. Shop. Take a nap. Whatever your body is asking for today — listen to it. And if somehow you wake up ready for round two? Rio will still be outside. Today is entirely yours.

Day 5
Today is all about the Rio you’ve seen in photographs — except now you’re standing in it. We’ll visit Christ the Redeemer, taking in sweeping views from one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks. Next, experience another perspective of the city from Sugarloaf Mountain, where Rio’s mountains, coastline and urban landscape come together in one unforgettable panorama. We’ll also stop at the vibrant Selarón Steps, the colorful mosaic staircase that has become one of Rio’s most photographed cultural landmarks. Bring comfortable shoes and keep that camera ready. This is one of our biggest sightseeing and photo days.

Day 6
Community-Led Favela Cultural Experience + Leisure Afternoon
Today, we experience another side of Rio through a community-led cultural visit designed to provide greater context around everyday life, creativity, entrepreneurship and community within one of the city’s favelas. Rather than simply observing from the outside, the experience centers local voices and perspectives, giving us an opportunity to learn about the community from people connected to it.
Afterward, the remainder of the day is yours. Head back to the hotel, spend some time on the beach, grab lunch, do a little shopping or simply enjoy your final full afternoon in Rio at your own pace.

Day 7
After the excitement of Carnival week, today is yours to enjoy Rio exactly how you want. Sleep in, relax poolside, head to Copacabana or Ipanema Beach, shop, book a spa treatment, grab lunch with a view, or simply enjoy a slow day with nowhere you have to be.
Optional Upgrade: Private Sunset Sail
For travelers who want one more unforgettable Rio moment, join us for a private sunset sailing experience along Rio’s iconic coastline. Sip cocktails from the open bar, enjoy food and music onboard, and take in views of the city, mountains, and shoreline as the sun begins to set. This is an optional upgraded experience and is not included in the base trip package. Space and final pricing will be confirmed closer to travel.
